Windows offers a mode that will only load the bare essentials that are needed to run the Operating System. This is called Safe Mode.

In Windows 8 to get to Safe Mode it is a bit more complicated than in previous versions. From the Start screen just start typing and it will bring up the search function. Your query should be Advanced Settings

Click on Advanced startup options at the far left

From here choose the General tab

and under Advanced Startup choose Restart now

From here you can either restart the machine, go back to Windows 8 or configure the options you wish to use. Choose Troubleshoot

From here you are given the opportunity to perform a factory restore among other features.Select Advanced Options to get to the next screen

The Advanced Options screen looks like the following. From here you can choose several options to troubleshoot issues with a machine. Choose Startup Settings

The next screen gives you an overview of the features you can disable in Safe Mode. Click Restart

On the next screen you will need to key in a number relating to the mode you wish to boot into.
